I fixed your issue with the shopping cart page missing

Regarding the product variant it is your virtuemart wrong configuration for the specific product variant , this is a pretty virtuemart setting and has nothing to do with the template itself , please have a better look at virtuemart configuration documentation .

I'm afraid that despite all the changes we tried in virtuemart's configuration, even for a simple product we created (without any variants-custom fields), "add to cart" doesn't function properly (the product isn't added to the shopping cart).

    If i login to your virtuemart i see errors on it

    My suggestion is as follow

    1) Uninstall Virtuemart from your backend
    2) Access phpmyadmin and clean all eventual uninstalled vm db tables
    3) install again Virtuemart
