Need help to reorder menu title and menu image

I need the menu image to be on the right, after the menu name/text. Tried with floating but no luck. It messes everything. Any suggestions?

    max-width: none;
    float: right;
}

When you add an image on menu, the title load first and image after it in Joomla.
You can try this tweak code in custom.css file

.navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a .image-title {line-height:84px;}

to move image title in center.

Which php file handles the rendering of the image and title for the menu. I can switch the order in the code.

I am not sure about the Joomla core handling, in T3 you can find it in file
/plugins/system/t3/includes/menu/megamenu.tpl.php
Take backup of this file.
Now find
if ($item->menu_image) { $item->params->get('menu_text', 1) ? $vars['linktype'] = '<img class="' . $item->menu_image_css . '" src="' . $item->menu_image . '" alt="' . $item->title . '" /><span class="image-title">' . $item->title . '</span> ' : $vars['linktype'] = '<img class="' . $item->menu_image_css . '" src="' . $item->menu_image . '" alt="' . $item->title . '" />';

Replace it with
if ($item->menu_image) { $item->params->get('menu_text', 1) ? $vars['linktype'] = ' <span class="image-title">' . $item->title . '</span> <img class="' . $item->menu_image_css . '" src="' . $item->menu_image . '" alt="' . $item->title . '" /> ' : $vars['linktype'] = '<img class="' . $item->menu_image_css . '" src="' . $item->menu_image . '" alt="' . $item->title . '" />';

Do I need to do override some how in order not to loose after update of T3?

You need to take backup of site everytime before updating T3, In T3 its override of Joomla.
