JA Social Feed - Facebook Manage_pages error

Hi, I am creating a website for a client and am having some trouble with the JA Social Feed extension connecting to Facebook to provide a feed into Joomla.

I believe I have read all posts on this matter and have attempted suggestions listed but I cannot successfully verify my Facebook account. I receive the following error:

Invalid Scopes: manage_pages. This message is only shown to developers. Users of your app will ignore these permissions if present. Please read the documentation for valid permissions at: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/permissions

I can confirm the following:
1. We have a vaild ssl
2. We are using the facebook page id not the profile id.
3. 2 factor authentication is off
4. We have the most recent version of JA Social Feed (1.3.6)

I will also advise we are using Joomla v3.8.12 on PHP 7.0
We also have Admin Tools installed, but the admintools .htaccess file is disabled, to allow JA Social Feed Profiles to be created. The site is in development and No index, no follow is currently enabled.

I can see that the Facebook app page gives you an option to do an App Review, which allows you to add manage_pages to it. Is it necessary to complete this?

If so, are you able to provide us with the information required? (see attached)

I am a web designer, not a developer so I really do not know how to answer the questions or what details to provide in the above attachments or if they are even required. But considering the error I am receiving it appears it could be an option.

artful Hi. For me this looks like the facebook app haven't been set to be used publicly. Have You came across such option in settings? Unfortunately I'm not allowed to ask You for a facebook access to check myself.

Sorry for the delayed reply - The app definitely says that it is live an available to the public - see attached

Every time I try to verify I receive the manage_pages error.

In the documentation it also says that we must use API Version 3.0 - but that is deprecated. Only 3.1 and 3.2 are available - could that be causing an issue?

I have also reported the issue to Facebook and am awaiting a reply.

I can't be the only person having this issue. I have followed the documentation exactly!

artful Hi. I monitor all forum and must say this is the only report of such problem at the moment. Even my copy of a website with Social Feed module works correctly.

I've looked for this particular error on facebook dev pages and I've found out that in order to use manage_pages the app has to be review. Maybe this is the problem: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/apps/review I hope this is something facebook devs will be able to help with, lets wait for their answer.

Thanks teitbite - no response from facebook as yet so I decided to delete that fb app and start over. Good news is that this time it allowed me to verify! With the verification code displaying that it was able to reference the posts on the relevant FB page. Yay!! But... after running the cron, no content is coming over. 🙁

Also the FB App was in development mode when it verified, I have tried running the cron in development mode and Live mode with no success. I have also updated content on the FB page in case it doesn't grab old content. No errors appear to be being thrown.

Any suggestions??

artful Hi. Visited Your site and import does nothing. I still think it's some issue in facebook settings as it looks like connection is established correctly, but it does not see any articles. Lets wait for the answer from FB Devs, so they will check the settings.

I’m still trying to work this out, Facebook has not responded, but some research shows a couple of things:

I was trying to work out why/how facebook is suggesting I need permissions for ‘manage_pages’ when I found it in your code, see below:

In my Facebook App I can see that under Permissions and Features within the App Review area manage_pages is ticked! This was automatic it appears when you set up a Facebook Login Product. It appears permissions/requirements may have changed Aug 1, 2018.

Further investigation indicates that to use ‘manage_pages’ the App requires App Review?!?

Perhaps Apps created or installed prior to Aug 1, 2018 were not affected by the Aug 1 change?!?

What is happening on August 1st?
As we announced earlier this year, all apps accessing the Pages API, Groups API, Events API, Business Manager API, Instagram Graph API, Messenger Platform, and Facebook Login were expected to submit for app review by August 1.

To help protect the integrity of our platform, we have removed API access for apps that require these permissions, have not gone through app review, and have not been active within the last 28 days as of July 31, 2018. If you still need access to our APIs, we encourage you to submit for review through your app's App Dashboard.

All active apps that require these permissions will be auto-enrolled in app review in the coming weeks. Developers will be notified if we require additional information to complete the app review submission. If responses are not received in the allocated timeframe, reviewable API access will be disabled.

I think I have to submit this app for review, but as I am not a developer I don’t know how to correctly answer their questions. https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/review/requirements

As it says in the above link, App review is NOT required if app is to be used in Development Mode, hence my earlier email.

If the app needs to be Live to function could you please provide me with the necessary information to submit the app for review?

artful Hi. I see. Maybe You should delete this facebook app and start all over again, maybe it wasn't generated right or an option was missed? I've checked Your configuration and everything looks to be correct there and there are no other reports of this problem from JA Social Feed users. It must be something on facebook side, but I really cannot tell what and if there is no answer from facebook devs we are not gonna figure that out too.

Even if I'm confident that the problem is not from component please look for a replacement https://extensions.joomla.org/tags/facebook-share/ just to test and eliminate such possibility or confirm it.

Ok, can you please confirm whether content can be transferred from Facebook to Joomla if the FB App is in Development mode? Or does it need to be Live to work?

You can pull content from facebook no matter your app is live or not.
Just make sure that you already verify your facebook profile on plugin setting ( i can not test your site, because it requires login, but at my end, plugin is working fine)

Note: The fanpage that you try to pull content must be yours. And facebook account your loged in must be admin that page.
