Hello
'JA comment' proposed me by default the three administrators as moderators.
Fine. But when I selected one of the three and pressed 'delete' then the whole list of users (5000+) appeared instead of the three (or expected remaining two)!
Why, and What should I do?
Thanks

francoism Hi. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this bug. Please provide an access to joomla panel and direct me step by step to how to replicate this issue. Than I'll compare it with clean installation and see if it's working like that every time.

    5 days later

    hello
    I added the access details
    Please see file attached
    Thanks

      francoism Hi

      PROBLEM 3:

Have You tried to select the checkbox below?

      PROBLEM 1:

Actually, there is a problem to Your joomla which may be affecting it. I can see an error coming from Your administrator template and there are elements missing/reordered in some layouts. I would advice to reinstall joomla. The visible issues indicates changes to joomla core files, so it may even be a hacking attempt.

      PROBLEM 2:

Probably as in PROBLEM 1. I can see same javascript error from template which is making some of the option unusable:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'click' of undefined
          at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (template.js?2567f51e437e004d9b0c01b3b07cd87c:178)
          at i (jquery.min.js?2567f51e437e004d9b0c01b3b07cd87c:2)
          at Object.fireWith [as resolveWith] (jquery.min.js?2567f51e437e004d9b0c01b3b07cd87c:2)
          at Function.ready (jquery.min.js?2567f51e437e004d9b0c01b3b07cd87c:2)
          at HTMLDocument.K (jquery.min.js?2567f51e437e004d9b0c01b3b07cd87c:2)

      hello
      problem 3:
I thing it was on earlier but I checked it off because I was afraid the whole list would receive an email in case of comment...
is there a way to delete all the names of 'moderators' other than manually (5000+ pers...)?
      I could then try again
In any case it is really weird that the action of deleting one name resulted in all the list popping up!? isn't it?

      Problem 1 and 2
Is this message appearing in Firefox java windows (shift+Ctrl+K)?
This is unfortunately beyond my internet capacity but
      1. could it be the site template rather than the admin template? it is derived from one default template that have been modified and therefore is not updated with Joomla (I copy my version over the new one each time)
      2. when a new Joomla version is updated is this not tantamount to reinstalling? if not can I do that through the update menu selecting some Joomla-full-version zip?
      thanks for your help

      Hello
Would you have any guidance to offer on how to delete all the names of 'moderators' other than manually (5000+ pers...)?
      I could then try again
In any case it is really weird that the action of deleting one name resulted in all the list popping up!? isn't it?
I checked the 'send email' off earlier because I was afraid the whole list would receive an email in case of comment... this may still happen
      thanks

        francoism Hi.

        1. Site template has no affect on admin panel template. Not even one line of code or style is used on this place except for the template configuration area.

        2. Yes, You can try that, but best would be to overwrite files via ftp. If it was a hacking attempt, permissions to the file may have been changed and joomla may not be able to overwrite infected file.

        3. I do not know how it happened, but if this would be a bug than we would have more reports of this problem. I think it was either a cause of broken joomla as mentioned before or a specific set of conditions.

There is no option to revert it, so I believe best would be to make a manual change in database. Please provide an access to database manager and tell me which users should have the right to receive this emails.

        Thanks for helping
You can erase all the names and leave only the super-users (that you can see by filtering)
I will try to reinstall Joomla; these kinds of things are scary when you're not so savvy with websites!
        Best
        François

francoism Hi. I'm sorry, but do You mean You do not need those users and want to delete them entirely? I though You only need to remove their right of receiving an email.

If I'm right than I would still need an access to some Database Manager like for example phpMyAdmin. If Your site has a cPanel than it should be included there. If not than I will need an access to FTP to be able to install one.

francoism Hi. I'm afraid Your task stands a bigger challenge than I thought. Please give me more time to figure that out. Will keep You updated.

could we make the number of line appearing 1000 instead of 100? we could then do it manually

francoism Hi. Sorry it took that long, but I was finally able to lower the number of forum moderators to Super Users only. Had to do that via database itself, so You will find a PHPmyAdmin installed in the folder of Your site. Please remove it if You do not want it or let me know, so I'll delete it myself.

A mayor problem why it happened and why I had so many issues trying to resolve that is that Your joomla is not working properly. Most of the javascript based options is not accessible. I would recommend to reinstall joomla and get rid of all of the plugins which may be affecting that.
