Image Hotspot module links opening in new window

Hi,
I'm checking out the JA Image Hotspot module. It's working fine except for the fact that links (as set in the field Link in Marker Control) are always opening in a new browser window. This is not what I need on this site. I cannot find a setting that could change this.

When searching the JA forum I noticed that I'm not the first one to ask this question but I didn't see an answer in the topics that I found. E.g.:

I hope that you can help me - and I would happily share the solution in this thread so other people can benefit from it.

Thanks for your reply. However I have some difficulties in understanding how the thread that you are referring to is relevant for my question. When reading it, it seems to me that opening the link in the same window was default behavior for this module back in July, 2015. The thread discusses changing this behavior to opening it in a modal (popup) window.

One would say that I could revert to this behavior when replacing the current code of my default.php file with the code from 2015 as shown in this thread. However, I can see that many changes were made in the code after July 2015. Because of this I do not think that it would be a good idea. Maybe you mean to say something else and I fail to understand it.

Anyway, I do not understand how this link works. I tried to add a target="_self" attribute to the link but that won't do the trick.

I have the same issue. The ability to select if the link opens in the current or a new window would be a useful enhancement.
