Documentation unclear

Right. This time trying to follow the documentation of https://www.joomlart.com/documentation/joomla-templates/ja-social-ii#quickstart-installation

Looking at
"3. JomSocial pages
Here are the steps replicate JomSocial pages in JA Social II demo.

Social Menu Setting - menu type: Community » Home"

How can I know which menu to add this to? Why is this not in the documentation? If I open the screenshot it shows "Menu Location" = "JomSocial Menu". How do I create "JomSocial Menu"? Where is that in the documentation?

Then when I continue, I add the "news" menu item as described in
"News Menu Setting - menu type: Community » News"

If I follow that process, and save, it says "Save failed with the following error: The alias news is already being used by News menu item in the Main Menu menu (remember it may be a trashed item)."

So I have to change the alias to something else. I'm happy with that, but it just doesn't give me any comfort this is going to result in anything good. I wish the documentation was more clear.

Please advise.

You can follow this guide from Joomla for how to create a menu in Joomla: https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Adding_a_new_menu This is what we did to create JomSocial menu.

Then create items for this JomSocial menu: https://static.joomlart.com/images/userguide/ja_templates/ja-social-ii/jomsocial-social-menu.jpg In the Menu item Type option > click Select > a popup will show up > you can select Community > Home

"News Menu Setting - menu type: Community » News"

As the error indicates that there is another menu item on your site having alias 'News' already, you need to go to Backend > Menus > All menu items > and find which one is using this alias (you may filter the Trashed items also)

thanks for your response.

I know how to create menus and stuff. That's not my issue. My issue is that I have to trial and error through the installation, rather than have it on a silver plate. I just don't know what other "random" step I should make next. Create another menu? Or something else? I wouldn't know. Steps are missing. The "alias already exists" is just another illustration that shows that it's strange: I start the installation from scratch, follow the instructions step by step, and still: I have a problem. How is that possible?

Anyhow... Please have a look at my installation. I will be sharing login details in a seperate discussion topic and share in a bit.

Jomsocial has redirection plugin that is used to redirection login.
It was configured to external sites URL.
I changed the login redirection to Home menu and i have no issue with login on your site : http://prntscr.com/lof4yb
