How do i hide Sub Menu Dropdown in Main Menu

I am trying to use a split menu for the main menu and have a module in sidebar-2 for sub menus of the main menu, starting at level 2 and it works correctly, but the module for the main menu (start/end at level 1) is not working.

What position do i use and how do i get it to work?

Also how do i get the sub menus to work as a dropdown in the Off Canvas area?

You seemed to have assigned module titled Main Menu to mainmenu module position however such position isnt available in template due to which it isnt showing. You can assign to one of module positions which is available in template in order to have the specific module shown

The method in your link is what i am trying to do. The module for the sub-menus works (see below) but the module for the main menu to only show 1 level does not (image in first post).

All pages are default for the template i use and when i switched to the default Alumni or Protostar templates the main menu level 1 module did not work.

Yes I am trying to hide the dropdowns in the Main Menu items (not show the main menu items in a different place via the module) and just show the 15 top level main menu items as the sub-menus are now shown in the side bar and all menu/sub-menus are shown in the off canvas position.

Is there a position that the level 1 to 1 module can use in the Alumni template so that only the top level muenu items are shown (i tried mainnav but that does not work either).

You can try hide them by adding this to custom.css file :

.navbar-nav > li > .dropdown-menu{display:none !important;}

Kindly ensure to clear your browser cache if changes dont reflect

The sub menus are hidden (thank you) but the dropdown arrow is still there beside the menu name, how do i hide that?

Try change the above CSS to this :

.navbar-default .navbar-nav > .dropdown > a .caret, .navbar-default .navbar-nav > .dropdown > span .caret,.navbar-nav > li > .dropdown-menu{display:none !important;}

Perfect thank you, ref the last question in my initial post, is it possible to get the dropdown feature for sub menus to work in the off canvas area?

I know the feature was not available in earlier templates, not sure if it has now been made available with recent updates.

It's default menu module of Joomla, to have that dropdown feature, it will require some customization on this module. It will take time to achieve that, or you can consider to seek for a 3rd extension which supports this feature.
