I like video module and I would like to leave it but I instead of the youtube video I would like to display just an image. Can I do that?

The video module showing the thumbnail from youtube video you will add, if there is no thumbnail it shows a default thumbnail.
If you want to show only an image on that not video. you can unpublish the current module and publish a custom html module, add your image in that and publish it on the same module position.

I created the custom module but the position of it is a way below the slideshow. In contrast, video module is displayed on the position which nicely overlaps the slideshow. How can I do that with the custom module?

use this in module suffix : t3-section bg-transparent
http://prntscr.com/n2x8ov it will add the same style used by video module. Rest the height is depend on the content you will add in custom html module.
