Site does not work with PHP 7

Ja Sugite cannot run on PHP 7.3.

I recently upgraded my server and found one of my sites did not work with PHP 7.3 forcing me to roll back to 5.6. The site is www.oldgrowthgardens.com if you are just curious.

Is there a plan to upgrade it so it works on newer servers? The Joomla ver. is 3.6.5. The backed says it's all up to date.

petermatra Hi. I have JA Sugite with PHP 7.3 on my computer and it runs fine. I suspect preblem may be because of one of extensions used. Try disable all modules and switch PHP version again, than publish module after module till You will see error messages. Last module published will be to blame for this issue.

Ok thanks but I can't even pull up the administrative backend when my server is 7.3

Latest Joomla version 3.9.5, If you are not able to see backend as well, in this case the installed Joomla is not compatible to run on this version Of PHP, you can take a full backup of site,
Check all the extension and template up to date and support PHP 7.3 and after that go for update.

I tried to do the automatic update to 3.9.5 but I get a http 500 error and a blank screen.

Kindly turn On the error report to Max from Joomla global configuration and check the error, the error can be from any of the extension on your site that is not ready for this PHP version and latest Joomla.
share the error screenshot as well, If its on test site, you can submit a temp super user details for staff in Edit fields option with server login so i can test it directly on your site.

OK I built a new server that is completely up to date. The website is completely stripped down to its bare essentials and is now installed on it. Error reporting is set to Maximum. This is the error that is spit out when you go to www.oldgrowthgardens.com Joomla is 3.9.5 PHP is 7.3

Hi,

The error message indicates issue from base file of Joomla, could you access backend of your site? try to switch to default Joomla template and see how it goes.

And share us the credentials of your site, we will take a look.

I can't access the administrator end either. I get the same error. The credentials are shared.

The error is coming from core Joomla file as also seen here for almost similar error seen

To troubleshoot ever since you are unable to access admin panel also
- Try change php version as captioned in above forum thread (to near ones) through cPanel

I have the site running on 5.6. and I get this funky error in both the front and administrative end

Fatal error: Call to undefined method JApplicationSite::isClient() in /home2/oldgrowthgardens/public_html/plugins/system/logout/logout.php on line 48

It looks like I have some research to do.

I posted this in the Joomla forum. I will keep this up to date. I'm rolling the site back to a previous version to see what happens.

petermatra Hi. I have found a thread on joomla forum about this exact issue https://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=958743 they said it's because of some file left after update. Please read all the instructions there.

I found that too. I used both postupdate.php and I also disabled Remember plugin and I still get the error. Also I'm running 3.9.5

Ok I don't know what happened but removed the account from the server once again and used the transfer tool like I did before a dozen other times, but this time the site works! I can't say what I did except that I manually removed the account instead of overwriting it while using the transfer tool.

it seems the issue is solved on your Joomla. The looks a problem in the installed Joomla version on your site with PHP.
Let us know if there is any change related with template on this.

The problem seems to have corrected itself but I am still running PHP 5.6

Not a big deal. The update to 3.9.6 probably has something to do with it.

This is not a common issue on Joomla too, you may follow up on Joomla forum thread to apply a fix on it. as Latest Joomla works fine on PHP 7.
