Sounds like a security setting somewhere

I was expecting you to refer to an older T3 plugin version - ask them to check the error reporting levels on the site global config to see if setting to none helps or if the error level is too high

Am trying to update it without success so far.
Reporting now set to None.

How do I fix the above ? (BTW: I assume fist = first and configed = configured ?)

Go to JAEM settings > Configuration > do nothing , just hit the 'Save' button: http://prntscr.com/jrew0j It will solve the issue.

I did a direct manual install of T3 plugin v 2.7.1 while JA EM sorts itself out.

This install should correct the problems with the log file as there was a problem with the T3 version in the js and css compression engines following a joomla update

Regarding the update extension it looks like you have it set as local service - going off the screenshots (I still can't login)

Try changing to Joomla Art updates
