If you link that banner to an article, make sure that article is assigned to a menu item so it can redirect to, otherwise, it will show under homepage - this is default behavior in Joomla.
You can create a new menu item (or use an existing one) and assign that article (or category that article belongs to) to that new menu item.
It will work fine then.
