PHP 7.3 breaks Ascent2

I have a site that uses the Ascent2 template (ver 1.0.5).
All works well with PHP 7.2.
I'd like to update to PHP 7.3 but when I do I get a web page that says 'Error' and nothing else (site does not work).
When I change back to PHP 7.2 all is good again.
Do I need to update something to use PHP 7.3?

Is this error only on the frontend panel? or your Joomla admin also down.
if its on Frontend You can set the error report to maximum and then load frontend , share the error with us.

Hi, I tried again to update to PHP 7.3 and received this message:

Warning: session_start(): Failed to read session data: user (path: /opt/alt/php73/var/lib/php/session) in /home/fruittre/public_html/libraries/joomla/session/handler/native.php on line 260
Error: Failed to start application: Failed to start the session

I'm using latest Joomla 3.9.18 and Ascent2 template (latest version).

Any suggestions on what to do?

The above error does not appear due to template as the error part is from Joomla.
I found a similar error reported on Joomla forum here : https://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=976043
You can set the default template to Protostar and check if the error remain same, there is issue with the Joomla side as in the link i shared.

In case someone else has a similar issue, the solution (for me) was to change to php 7.3 and then (still in CPanel) to reset the php extensions to 'default'.
