t3 / t4 and Skip component

Hello

On T3 templates ( ja morgan for example ) , there is a " skip component " option the the template's layout configuration.

Cheking on Helple, built on T4, i noticed the "skip component" is not there . But now there are different layouts, without components position

So the trick consisting in using menu item pointing to a featured blog page , coupled to the "skip component", operating in old templates is not used anymore.

Few questions :

Should we and can we apply this solution to old sites on t3 ( like on ja morgan for instance ) ?
Solution being : duplicate a layout, remove component from it, and remove the featured template blogs from menus and replace them by single article or else.
If we should do it, can you tell why ? What would be the plus ?
Last question, Will older templates like ja_morgan be upgraded to t4 ?

Hi schlogo

As you know that in 'Layout' setting of templates built with T3 framework, you can't edit by adding / removing the 'component' block so T3 offers option to skip 'component' block in specific page.

In T4, it's more flexible that in Layouts Settings of template, you can add/remove any section including the component block. Almost pages on your site will have this component block, only some pages that you don't need to show it so you can simply clone the layout to have a new one and remove component block in the new layout. This can be done with some clicks in the layout settings and no need any change in code like T3.

It will be updated for Joomla 4, there will be T3 based templates updated to T4 but to be honest, this list of templates is not available yet, it needs decision from the team so kindly follow up the blog post for update news.
