This is a fresh installation and then i just placed the search in the top bar. Then when i type anything
I need to know more details to replicate this issue: -Which Joomla version? -Which position you assign the search module? -Is this default search module of Joomla?
Some screenshots would be helpful here.
saguaros This is the latest joomla version 3.9.21. I downloaded the quickstart package on the downloads page. It was the default search module.

As you did not tell me the position so I create a search module ++ assign to 'topbar' position but the search module still function correctly.
