Uploading a .sql database

Hello Everybody...

I'm having problems uploading an older database to my jomsocial / joomla website. Any Idea's on what I could do? I keep getting the following error message. "Error Unable to detect manifest file."

May I knoww how you are uploading it as there is already same DB exist on your site. The table formats must be same from your older Joomla site DB and new one.

Just uploading it through the Joomla installer.. I was wondering if there was a way to combine them?

No
Joomla installer only used to upload Joomla extensions. Not Database. You can consult with DB /mysql experts as it can be done by phomyadmin . Take full backup of site before doing this as any wrong change will damage you site.

How would you do a fresh install then if you had an older database.. As if you saved a backup database from jomsocial?

I think i need to pay for one of those database tools that allows you to combine databases.. I just don't want to buy one and then never use it again.

Sorry its not something very easy event with 3rd party extension if old version DB you will move to new version JomSocial it will not work as there are many changes applied in each new version of JomSocial.
So you can better upgrade JomSocial to new version step by step https://www.jomsocial.com/blog/jomsocial-4-7-8-updated-for-bug-fixes

I dont need the info in jomsocial necessarily... More so to joomla for a mass messaging. Is that possible?

If the users exist in Joomla user table they will appear for JomSocial as well.
For JomSocial profile they have to save the profile inside JomSocial.
The table condition must be applied if version of older Joomla and JomSocial not same.
