Hello,

I have a simple request: Why can't we simply upload a video file (mp4 for example) without any ffmpeg conversion? ffmpeg uses a lot of resources on shared servers and the quality is poor.

I can of course use the "upload file" function in the jomsocial stream but then I don't see a player and the user is asked to download the complete file (no streaming).

Can you please implement the functionality that, if no ffmpeg folder is specified, jomsocial will not do any conversion and use the standard html video element for displaying mp4, wmv, avi, m2t and other mime type videos?

I also have Kunena installed and there you can simply upload a video file and the video is shown in the post with a player. The html <video> element exists since a long time and requires no complex flv conversions through ffmpeg.

In jomsocial no player is shown 🙁

Thanks

    Hi
JomSocial does not support this option, posting video directly via server URL does not make it as wall stream item, it always work like this, I am afraid its not possible to make this change, The system does not support this way.
If you upload video as file, it not play as its uploaded as file.

    Thanks Pankaj for your reply.

"It always work(ed) like this" is a statement which shows that jomsocial is no longer open to change 😉

In other words, I understand from your comment that jomsocial will stick with ffmpeg and, for the time being, a maximum resolution of 800px wide whereas the cheapiest low-end smartphone records in HD.

As it looks like I'm the only one requesting this feature I will have to search for other alternatives.

      Hi
In Videos settings you can change the Resolution to High. Yes if you want a more high resolution this i can sure ask dev team to add more options.

      Hi,
No thanks Pankaj it is not necessary for me as I can't use ffmpeg on my server.
      Regards

You Can use the Live video Provider like Youtube, Vimeo and more others for linking videos.
