Shortening URLs

I have been using the MOZ platform to help me with SEO and one of the HUGE things they dinged me on was that my URLs were too long.

And example they show is: https://finishingandcoating.com/index.php/liquid-coat/315-air-power-continues-to-grow-with-zenmar-acquisition

Question: is there an easier way to shorten URLS

Question: How will this affect my prior links that are out there (In LinkedIn Posts, etc) where the old links may be appearing?

These are the Joomla menu item and article URLs.
When you create any article you can choose own small alias for short urls or find a 3rd party extension on JED like sh404. For already shared link it depends on the extension you will use for short url. By default original url will not break.
