Trying to achieve tabs effect

I am trying to achieve the 'Featured' and 'Popular' effect on the quick start as shown in the screenshot what_I_am_trying_to_do.jpg. This is my quickstart url: https://www.product-adviser.com/proto/index.php
I realized this was done using zen tools and in the quick start under the 'Content Type Settings' you can choose what categories will show. I can't do that in my site. The equivalent tab area only allows me to choose 'All Categories' or 'Uncategorized'. I've also noticed that in the quick start the zen tools for this module has a lot more tab options that my zen tools. How come? Some tabs inside the zentools module will only display depending on the layout configuration used

The categories - I can see several categories displaying when I check the k2 content in a zentools module when logged in to your admin

You would publish different modules to the tabs position - is this what you have tried?
