To summarise….
As I understand the situation from the various posts, any pages created before 8th Oct still work for end users because the HTML is held in the content field in the database and there is no interface with your JA Builder server so the page displays as before.
If we create a new page after 8th Oct a new record is created in the sites database and a corresponding record in your JA Builder server. Because both databases match the page can be edited with JA Builder as before.
Pages created before the 8th Oct have no record in your JA Builder database and this is what causes the problem of not being able to edit.
Your proposed solution for us to edit pages directly in the site database will allow edits to be made and the changes saved, but even after doing this the updated page will not be able to be edited in JA Builder in future because there is still no record in your JA Builder database.
Our Usage:
The way we use JA Builder is like most folk to create and edit pages. Some of our authors do not know HTML. We would like to continue to make updates to existing pages using JA Builder NOT an HTML editor. Many of our pages are updated regularly by cloning blocks and then modifying the cloned block, doing this by html edit would be a pain.
The Requirement:
We need a way to get our existing page details added to your database so we can use JABuilder as before, without having to use phpMyAdmin, HTML editor etc.
This means to be able to ‘easily’ perform a one-time task to update the JABuilder database from the site database even if this is on a page-by-page basis so that thereafter new and existing pages can be edited as before the server problem.
Note to have new pages updated by JA Builder and old pages updated by another means would be an administrative nightmare.
Suggested Solutions:
Facility in JA Builder to select a page and have details added to JA Builder database
Tool that will scan the site database, analyse the data, check that a record exists in the JA Builder database and if it does not then create one
In JA Builder editor under Pages add a facility to Import to Current page From Existing Page as well as from File and Library
Facility to select a current page and export the data to a text file in the same way as when in JA Builder you can export. Then be able to open the page in the builder (which will show as being empty), or create a new page and then import the text file - doing so will create the JA Builder record
I’m sure others can add their suggestions…
