posting some links cause invalid json data

We have seen a couple of recent posts with a link to a dailymail.co.uk that ends up bringing our site down. It is because the data getting posted in the params field of the community_wall table is getting truncated because it exceeds the field length. This results in an invalid json format. I was able to correct the data to bring the site backup but I don't want to have to continue to do this.

Is there a setting in the backend we can change that will prevent this error?

Do you refer the Field value is login for the Video URL
may i have the error screenshot and an example video URL that show the issue.

There is no such setting as the same video Fetch from the Vimeo server to get the details.

I don't understand your first question about the field value. I don't think it was a video URL. I believe the user put it in the comments section when posting it in a group.

I have attached a copy of the error.

the actual error was: Error decoding JSON data: Control character error, possibly incorrectly encoded

I had to change the ./libraries/vendor/joomla/registry/src/Format/Json.php to show the actual data. From there I was able to do some reverse engineering to find the bad data. I have attached the corrected value. You can see at the end how the data is truncated.

I could not able to replicate this issue on JomSocial with comment post as well in the videos.
On your site as well it work fine. If you can provide steps to replicate issue i can have a look if it from JomSocial side or some of app used in Jomsocial making this issue.

I was able to replicate on our test site. I have added it in the private info. Here are the steps.

reply to an existing post (i did this in a group post) and enter in this url. We know of at least 2 URLs from this site. I don't know if we have had this issue before or not. Then you can query the community_wall table and check the length of the params field or the right 5-100 characters to see it truncating the results.

I increase the comment length limit to 250 now
But i can not delete current comment as the site access not super user on test site.
Can you check it now.

This problem continues to happen. I just did this on your demo site which is now broken/down. steps to replicate

login to jomsocial site
go to a group and make a post.
add a comment to the post with the below URL
you can run this query to find the offending record and review the json data in the params field
select *,length(params) as 'paramlength' FROM josgq_community_wall where length(params) > 65000 order by id desc
