PHP error display is this
If Joomla Debug is enabled the same thing is displayed, instead of the PHP stack trace that you see normally see. Here's an example from another template
I figured it out. Found this https://www.t3-framework.org/documentation/bs3-customization#404-page and copied the slightly modified error.php from the system template

Thanks for the response, but I'm not sure I understand completely. Maybe a better way of explaining the problem is that the default error.php in the template does not consider the Joomla debug state (where you want to display a call trace).
