Blog layout options

Hello, in the category blog i want the layout to be more like grid, now its mansory. Shall i change css (how?) or shall I create new layout and define values for another layout (how)? For example aiga template has the blog layout option I need. Thank you for your help. Lukas

Yes this works in some cases, but if the article is longer, it becomes mansory again. If I could limit the number of characters, that would help. And one more question please, is it possible to crop the image, so all the images have same width/height? Thank you for your help. Lukas

It seems, but its not ok. I did the image crop via css, but when i want to use readmore element, the whole layout breaks down. And as I wrote earlier if the article is longer, the layout becomes mansory again. And I cannot shorten it with readmore - the layout breaks down. I need at least 9 articles on the page in 3 columns with approximately same length and same image height.
