Hi,
I was referred by the Presales Chat to post this question here, as we're basically looking for some reassurance before renewing our subscription to get additional support with regards to updating to Joomla 4. We'll happily renew our subscription for the support once we know it's not a dead end with the Paradise template.
So here goes:-
We have our site running with the Gavick Paradise template on J3 and have now started working on updating to J4 but have run into a few issues and need some reassurance / support in order to decide on which route to take from here on in, so to speak.
In preparation for the update I made a sandbox and created a complete, fully functioning copy of the site using Akeeba. (Subdomain, new DB, etc.) After checking the copy was 100% okay, I checked all the components, modules, plugins for compatibility with J4 and found only very few issues. (the below mentioned one wasn't flagged) I deactivated Google Tag Manager and Falang Translation, for example, as those ones will need a new (paid) version with J4 and removed a few other Gavick-plugins that we don't use anyway like Gavick Menu Extended Parameters, etc. as they were also not deemed compatible by the Joomla 4 pre-update check,.
Once everything was clear I performed the J4 update which went well overall. The backend works 100% as it should right out of the box - but there are issues on the frontend.
The biggest issue is that the GK Image Show GK4 Module causes a fatal error and has to be disabled or it crashes the site:
I have searched high and low but cannot find a new version of the module anywhere (current version is 1.7.4. and from November 12th, 2021) - but surely, as this module is an important part of the Paradise template, it should be available for J4 as well?
Another issue, minor but annoying nonetheless, is that random things now look strange, have shifted position, got a strange background, etc. - like the Joomla built-in language switcher:-
These smaller issues, along with a few other anomalies I have noticed so far (different "Next" and "Previous" buttons and all article images that used to be links to the articles have now become unlinked, etc.) I can probably fix myself. Strange little things to iron out but I reckon it's to do with the J4-compatible Paradise template being slightly different.
The reason I'm asking this up front is obviously that we wouldn't want to start a new subscription only to find out later that the Paradise template (and the image module in particular) isn't actually fully compatible with Joomla 4 or anything like that.
Hope you'll be able to help us along here with some information as to whether this issue is indeed fixable so we can decide on a way forward. As mentioned, we'll happily renew our subscription for the support once we are sure that Joomla 4 is not a dead end with the Paradise template.
Thank you in advance.
