Main menu external URL does not open in new window

Hi there,

At https://www.drb-holding2.co.uk/ the main menu item About -> GDPR Policy is set to be an external URL in a target 'New Window with Navigation' as you can see below.

I've tried a simple URL (as opposed to a googledoc) and the same problem happens.

Is this a template issue, or a Joomla issue (which I've never seen before!).

On View Source line 299, it appears to have the correct target, so I can't see why this doesn't work as expected?

Hi Dave,

I just tried to create the same menu item type but it worked perfectly.

Are you using latest version of T4 framework and template? Try to backup your site and update first.

Definitely the latest versions of the framework (2.2.1) and template (JA Ego 2.0.0).

I don't understand it at all 🙁

I posted this to the Joomla forums and the reply was that they think it's an issue with the megamenu.

I can give you login details if you'd like to check if I've done anything wrong, but it worked fine with a JSN template, so this issue hasopnly started when I updated to a JA template.

I've reinstalled Joomla Core, reinstalled the T4 system plugin 2.2.1 and the JA Ego 2.0.0 template but still doesn't work.

It works perfectly with Protostar, so there is something going on with the megamenu.

davidboggitt Could you share the super admin account of your site? and tell me the menu item name, I will take a look.

Thank you, I've done that in the site details of the original post.

An example is the main menu item Event Calendar.

I have a bespoke Admin Menu, so when you login to the backend, go to Administration -> Frontend Menu Manager.

I get the same behaviour when I install JA Vital as the template and also with PHP 7.3 and 8.0. Something is very odd indeed here...!

davidboggitt I realize that the issue occurs only when that URL menu item has sub-menu item.

I forwarded this issue to our T4 team for further checking, I will keep you posted.

Thank-you, that worked perfectly!

Is this fix going to appear in a future version of the T4 framework, because I currently have the same issue in another website: https://www.drb-holding3.co.uk/. All the submenu items under the main menu item 'Press' should open in a new window but don't.
