An error has occurred. 0 Call to a member function format() on null

My website has stopped sending mail to my email account and gives me this error when trying to access the front end. I think it's linked to the php and/or lack of updated template (spa from shape5). I am on Joomla 3.9.6 with the latest version of the vertex framework.
