Search field on SERP redirects to homepage

Hi guys,
I updated my website from J3 to J4 but now the search function is not working properly. Before migrating to J4 I used the old built-in Search module. Now I'm using the built-in smartsearch component but there might be a problem with my configuration. I can't pinpoint the cause.
The problem is that the search field which appears on the search result page does not work anymore. It always redirects to the frontpage. If I use the search field on my navbar my articles always show up and everything works as expected though.
I'm clueless, any ideas?

It seems that you've not created any menu item for Smart search yet so it redirects to homepage. Pls try to create one, it will work fine.

Hi saguaros,
Thank you, I was able to solve it. I had created a menu item for the search before but it was of the wrong type, (which worked fine apparently with J3's old search module). Now I chose Smart search -> Search, or if you happen to have your admin language set to German like me: "Suchindex" -> Suche.
