Limit JomSocial to only some Joomla User Groups

Our web site has over 10,000 members, but only a small sub-set of these will participate in our JomSocial instance (let's say about 500 users). I want to limit JomSocial to only include those users -- I don't want JomSocial to show that there are 10,000 members -- I want the count and the user interactions to be only be for the 500 users. Over time, other Registered users on the site will pay to gain access to JomSocial, but they cannot have access or be exposed in any way until they are granted access to JomSocial.

How can I accomplish this?

I'm sorry for this lateness, somehow I missed this topic.

At this moment, there is no way to filter this 500 users collection. For the new registration, you can consider to create a new Joomla User Group and set it as default group for new registered users.

Next, you go to menu item of Jomsocial pages and look for 'Access' option and assign it to the new created user group above.

Hi, thanks for this. To clarify, what you are suggesting is that I set the Menu Item view access level to restrict who can access JomSocial.

If I'm correct, JomSocial will still show the number of members being the total # of users in Joomla, even if there are only 500 people in the user group that has access to JomSocial?
