Private Messages missing after update from 4.3.5 to 4.8.2

After updating JomSocial from 4.3.5 to 4.8.2 when going to the Inbox and Sent all the messages are missing. If I try Write to send a new message it gives me the same message as the Inbox and Sent pages. Which I have attached a photo of:

This site is a test run before I update the current site, so to update the live site once I complete testing I'll need to know how to fix it myself once you figure out the problem.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I can see all the messages in the MySQL database as they should be. Just seems to be an issue with JomSocial 4.8.2 no longer reading them??

Upon turning Joomla error reporting to Maximum I am getting this error on the Inbox, Sent, and Write pages:

Deprecated: trim(): Passing null to parameter #1 ($string) of type string is deprecated in /home/testdesowv.org/public_html/components/com_community/helpers/access.php on line 30

Could this have anything to do with the issue?

Don't even get me started listing the errors I am seeing on the other pages of JomSocial 😮

This deprecated message due to the new PHP 8.1 version you're using only, Jomsocial is ready for PHP 8.0 for now, pls switch to this version 🙂

Upon further testing and digging I was able to figure out the issue (at least I think I did).

In versions of JomSocial before 4.8.2 (at least up to 4.3.5) the private messages were being handled by database tables:
_community_msg
_community_msg_recepient

Now in JomSocial version 4.8.2 the private messages are being handled by database tables:
_community_chat
_community_chat_activity
_community_chat_participants

What can we do to bring the old private messages into the new database structure? I find it very hard to believe when JomSocial was updated it was intended for all previous private messages to be lost.
