JA K2 Filter - Issues with the itemlist.php file

The site and FTP details above is for the dev version of the site, was thinking we could get the error resolved there and then I can do the same steps on the live site.

Currently experiencing and an error with the JA K2 filter module. On the frontend the page with the module doesn’t load and am getting the error “Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is no longer supported”, path is /components/com_jak2filter/models/itemlist.php line 1998.

On the backend if I try open the module then while the module does open it is stripped of all the layouts and getting the errors: “Warning: Array to string conversion in /usr/www/users/vmdevcqapa/oldschool/modules/mod_jak2filter/elements/template.php on line 71 Fatal error: Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is no longer supported in /usr/www/users/vmdevcqapa/oldschool/components/com_jak2filter/models/itemlist.php on line 1998”

And then if I go to the JA K2 search component on the backend and click the options page it also loads but is stripped of all the layouts and there is the error: “Fatal error: Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is no longer supported in /usr/www/users/vmdevcqapa/oldschool/components/com_jak2filter/models/itemlist.php on line 1998”

Have the latest versions of the component, module, and plugin (1.3.3, 1.3.3, 1.3.0) installed. Site is running on PHP 8.0, filter was working fine when the site was running on PHP 7.4.

Went through the forum posts and saw that there was a thread which also involved the itemlist.php file and a patched file was given. Tried putting this in and while things started working again I was getting a null error and page not found when trying to do a search.

Also I have disabled the JA K2 filter module for now so that the homepage will load when you go to.

Thanks for the info.

K2 has not updated for PHP 8 and Joomla 4 for a long time so we could not update our JA K2 filter component either. Recently, K2 released a new version which supports PHP 8, we're aware of this and will check with dev team for update plan. For now, it's not ready for PHP 8 yet, pls switch to use PHP 7.x instead.

Hey Saguaros, thanks for getting back to me.

Forgot to mention we are running Joomla 3.10.11 on the site. I see for K2, a little while back for another client on their site they couldn't save K2 articles (screen would go white) when running PHP 8.0. But then installed the K2 dev version and that fortunately resolved the error.

In this case though with the K2 filter module the hosting provider we are using for site has removed all PHP version prior to PHP 8.0, we can't run any PHP 7.x versions. Is there anything we can do in the meanwhile to try it resolved? The filter module is quite a core part of the client's site.

I just replaced some old files to the latest update (bugs fix and php8x compatible)
modules/mod_jak2filter/elements/template.php
components/com_jak2filter/models/itemlist.php

Thank you, I tried replacing those files with the new version. While I can now open the JA K2 filter component page in the backend, when I try open the module page I am getting the error:

0 implode(): Argument #2 ($array) must be of type ?array, string given
/modules/mod_jak2filter/elements/prek2extrafield.php:289

I also tried creating a new JA K2 module and I got the same error. Also tried reindexing just in case but didn't affect the error.

Thanks, have re-installed the mod package. In the backend I can now access the module, however, on the frontend when a search / filter is done I am getting two different errors (and have tried doing the re-indexing in the backend component but didn't change anything).

If I try filter using one of the dropdown fields I get this error:

I'm seeing the same issue with php8. Is the above zip file a general fix for all installations that I can safely use?

Yep, there's always that... good news, no exception on the front end. bad news, lost the filtering capability that we had and I'm getting the following error in the backend:

An error has occurred.
0 count(): Argument #1 ($value) must be of type Countable|array, null given

The updated code seems to work with PHP 7.4.33 but not 8.0.28. The goal was to get it working with 8.0.28.

Specifically, on the frontend, it displays "LOADING" which never completes.

Could you share the credentials of your site such as: URL + super admin + FTP account and the URL of that page so we can check?
