Enabling positions in GK Spotlight

The module is entitled " Articles - Category Left - GK Spotlight" but it does not give me the option of the layout you have specified. (This is set to appear on Resources>Articles to Read> Feis Tips
The articles that are set to appear are under the category "Fitness"

Perhaps this is because this is Joomla 3 (We are doing as much here as possible before creating the dev site and migrating to Joomla 4 later in July.)

Hi-

I figured out the issue. There were no content fields created - so the fields tab was not displaying in the Content > article editor.
I have now discovered how to create the fields(Content>Fields), however the GK Spotlight demo takes advantage of two custom fields - Oval and circular for displaying thumbnail (and other images). These fields are not generated through the installation of GK Spotlight. Can you please advise where to access the information (ie code, settings) in order to generate these two specific fields.
On a separate note, I number of the modules for GK Spotlight do not display. I believe part of the issue is that the documentation shows one set of module names, the Extensions>Template> Previews shows another, and the Extensions>module > positions show another set of names. Any guidance as to the correct set (which are those in module>positions -and why some are not enabled would be appreaciated.

(Please note I am still in process of migrating our site, as there are some modules that are needed that are not yet fully J4 compatible, so I am testing in both Joomla 3 & 4 - so help instructions for either are appreciated/useful.)

I have the module: Main body top - HOME-top1 set to display on all pages , and while it does display on the home page, this module does not appear on any other pages: such as:

https://irishdancing.com/mm4/index.php/articles/issues .....

I do not understand why the module "top 1" displays on the first page but on no other pages using this template, even though it is set to display on all pages (and they are checked) in the Module Menu assignment.

I'm not entirely sure of your first question about module positions, how you want to achieve?

About the top1 position, this template has some rules to not show this position in some pages. I just updated this layout file a bit: ‎/templates/gk_spotlight/layouts/default.php

Line 184:

<?php if($this->API->modules('top1') && HOME_PAGE && $item_id != $error_item_id  && !GK_COM_CONFIG && !GK_COM_USER) : ?>

change to:

<?php if($this->API->modules('top1')) : ?>

so this position can display on all pages now.

Can you tell me if this is only for this particular module (that it can only display on the home page); if not - what other modules are effected by this restriction?
And, if I may ask, why you have it that this module cannot display on certain pages by default? Perhaps it should state at someplace (in documentation?) that this field is only available for home page?

Also can you assist me with my other inquiry - as to where /how to get the field options for the images (OVAL) - as these are not available in my field options. If this is a custom article>field that needs to be created, can you please advise the code.

It's applied for these 3 special positions only: top1, top2, top3

You can edit the same for top2, top3 position like what I did above.

I don't get this question, which image are you referring to? and how you want it should be?

In https://www.gavick.com/joomla-templates/spotlight/install it states:
Article media styles
GK Spotlight supports 3 article media styles: default, oval and circula. The article media style is applied in the article category module and article category page.

However the only article field options that I see available are those that I had previously installed from a plug--in

I am presuming there is some place where I need ti enable these fields so that they will display as field options, however I cannot find it.

Hi Cameron,

I realize that there are 2 issues on your site:

1/ In Backend >> Content >> Fields >> you should create field 'Media Style' with type of List - not type of Media
2/ But when creating field type of List, there is error related to the 'Repeatable' field type - which was removed in Joomla 4 - so I must disable this Repeatable field plugin for you to make it work.

I just created this field and set 'Oval' for above article, you can see it displays correctly now on this category page: /index.php/articles/articles-to-read/news-articles

The site that you are visiting is through MigrateMe4 - Unfortunately we are unable to do the actual migration yet as still waiting on one module in J2 Store that we need. Our main site is very dynamic, with new subscription orders, contest entries... coming in every day. I am hoping that I can simply have this mm4 module access/update with the most current data. If not, I will need to go in and re-perform the migration. In that case I will lose these modifications that you have helped me with.

I took note of how you adjusted the module view for the separate pages. Can you assist with a more detailed instructions in case I need to perform what you did above with the field list... or should request your assistance again at that time if it is needed?
