GK Portfolio category blogview number of columns

I migrated a website (actually two) which uses GK Portolio to Joomla 4.

I installed the newest version of GK Portfolio.

The 2 websites both have the featured view with 4 columns on the frontpage and a category blogview with 4 columns on some other pages.
The frontpage picks up the number of columns correct, the category blog page not. When I changed the way the number of columns is read from the params in the category blogview to the way the featured blogview does it, it worked well.

Since the template already uses overrides I can not solve this problem with an override, thus having to upload the change after every update of the template.

Is there a solution?

Sharing is a bit difficult, it's already in production with the "override" for com_content/category/blog.php.

I added these lines on top of the file to make it collect the number of configured columns in the menu correctly:

if (version_compare(JVERSION, '4', '>')) { $this->columns = max(1, $this->params->get('num_columns', 0)); }

You can add this code instead into the file: [root]\templates\gk_portfolio\html\com_content\category\blog_item.php

if (version_compare(JVERSION, '4', '<')) {
	JHtml::_('behavior.caption');
} else {
	$this->item->columns = max(1, $params->get('num_columns', 0));
}

underneath this line of code:

require_once(__DIR__ . '/../../../inc/layout.php');

If this works, I suppose it does, going to test it tomorrow, will it be in the next update of the template?

larotonde Yes, it will be included in the next version of template too.

Due to circumstances I was a few days later to test. Actually there was a new version of the Portfolio template available this morning and I updated the tempate. After the update the category blog views were empty, no articles were displayed. Which is sightly worse than not recognizing the number of columns.

I moved the site to production with my overrides .
