JA Teline V menu adjustments

I'm struggling to modify the main menu on this site. I would like to make the white boxes at either side of the menu the same background as div.main (/templates/ja_teline_v/images/body_bg.jpg), but without changing the colors of the various menu items. I just want the menu to span the main div, not the whole screen. Hoping this is an easy fix somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Also menu-related, I've got drop-down menus that are too long (too many items to fit on the screen). I want to adjust the padding/margins on them to shrink their length. Can you help with this also, please? I cannot seem to find the right class to adjust the padding on them, so I can shorten the drop-down length. Please see attached

You can use the following CSS code to change the background of the main menu.

.t3-mainnav {
    background: #000;
} 
.t3-mainnav > .container {
    background: #000;
}

About the dropdown menu, you can use the following CSS code:

.t3-megamenu .dropdown-menu .mega-nav {
    max-height: 300px;
    overflow-y: scroll;
}

Thank you for your help in getting the menu background changed to black. I kind of like the whole bar being black also, BUT it makes the menu font hard to read (dark grey on black).

I would like to change the font color of the main menu items (top-level), so they show up better on the black background. I was thinking a lighter gray (#8b8b8b) for their normal color, then red (#C00202) for their hover & active color. This isn't a setting in the Megamenu configuration, so I'll need to find the right classes to customize in custom.css, correct? OR am I missing something?

I've tried looking at the megamenu.css to see what needed customized, and I appear to be stumped. I can change everything except for what I want to (the drop-downs, rather than the main bar), so that CSS must be elsewhere?

I realized the best way to deal with the long drop-down sub menus was to make them two-column, via the Megamenu configuration settings. So that works fine now. I just need to get these font colors changed.

Any further pointers?
