Joomla! 5 compatibility

Hello everybody.

I have three sites with T3-based templates.
All have been updated to J4 successfully.
Could I have problems upgrading to J5?
Or the compatibility of your themes and extensions that works in J4 is also guaranteed for
J5?

It's not guaranteed however if the templates are compatible with J4 then they will likely be updated for J5 in future.
We will announce our specific plan for J5 updates once there is more information.

Hi all,

Just to give you some feedback.

I did a test locally with 4.4.0 rc1 followed by 5.0.0 rc with Ja Mason, Ja mono and Ja Healtcare, lot of overrides to check but everything seems to work as it should.

Let's hope that with the production versions of 4.4.0 and 5.0.0 will be the same.

There are no big changes in layout files, except for the old legacy code. Joomla 5 offers a plugin which provides backward compatibility for the deprecation which has been deprecated prior Joomla! 5 so you would see the old overrides even work there.

The main issues will come from the new installation as Joomla! 5 requires new MySQL 8.0 and template or extensions must be changed and improved a lot of legacy code.
