Front End 500 error after upgrade from Joomla 4.4.5 to Joomla 5.1.1

I get a Front End 500 error after upgrade from Joomla 4.4.5 to Joomla 5.1.1 and the page won't load
Then more below:
Attempted to load class "JFactory" from the global namespace.
Did you forget a "use" statement?

A bunch more follows. I tried turning off the JCE Editor, but didn't help. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks.

You're using old version of JA Purity IV template + its complimentary extensions, you should BACKUP your site first and update latest version, it will be fine.

Thanks for your help.
I've been updating everything as I've been developing. I just now went and downloaded the latest version from your website and installed via the upload method and it's now working.
Is there a difference in this method versus using the direct update method?
