JA K2ForJ4 or com content plus comment, etc.?

Hi,
Finally found time to update a large ja-directory J3-K2 website with loads of comments. Already using the unofficial K2ForJ4/5 for other sites I would like to know if the JA K2 Filter Component for J3 is compatible?
Also using the K2 to Com content Migration plugins for other sites and then in combination with the Megafilter might work, but not for the comments.
Edit: jComment does not import the item id; CComment Core does but only imports published items. Is it possible for Com content Migration to preserve item ids and then switch CComment from com_k2 to com_content?
I noticed the demo site is still on J3 with K2 and the J4 quickinstall shows no directory with com content or filters. What is your take on the old directory setup?

Our K2 to com_content migration supports to transfer K2 content such as: categories, k2 items, fields, fields groups, ... into Joomla articles categories, articles, fields, ... accordingly. Unfortunately, Joomla doesn't have built-in comment system so our extension doesn't support this feature.

You can contact the provider of the comment extensions to find the way to import K2 comments to their extensions.

That's not new, please answer my questions:
What about supporting K2ForJ4/5 (like some other providers) with an updated JA K2 Filter Component?
And is it possible for Com content Migration to preserver the item/ content id in order to reconnect exported comments?
At the moment JA Directory quickstart offers no alternative to the J3 solution, not even in com content. What is your view on that?

JA K2 filter component supports original K2 extension only, I'm afraid that it doesn't support this J4/5 one.

As I mentioned above, this extension doesn't support to handle the comment, I suggest to hire a developer to get it done for you.

In J3, this template is designed to work with K2 content + filter component specific. If you switch to use Joomla articles, you will need to implement an extension supporting the filter feature as JA K2 filter component does.

Hi Saguaros,
I was expecting some more direction on JA Directory J4/5, but this is a full stop. Should I stay with unofficial K2 or should I go for com content?
Of course with joomla fields, JA Open Street map and some overrides (from JA Findus maybe) I can get the most done. Changing the image path in convertK2Items.php works fine and I will get the item/ article ids to work for sure.
I do understand K2 is obsolete in many ways. Nevertheless it is a waste to let such a powerful extension like K2 completely go and I was hoping for a more easy way to continue.
Then again, Joomla being a fork itself and with no real substitute for K2, why not go on where others stop? I think joomlart can 😉

I share your enthusiasm for K2; it is indeed a powerful extension. However, its extensive features can make migration to Joomla versions 4 or 5 quite challenging.

It is worth noting that Joomla 4 and 5 now support many features similar to those offered by K2, with the exception of the comment system. You might consider migrating to Joomla's native content system and utilizing a recent template that supports Joomla 5 and PHP 8.x.

One more question though... exploring the JA K2 data migration plugin I stumbled upon an unused helper 'jlex_migrate.php'; JLex Comment looks like a fine comment system to me. Installing the comment component seems not enough to trigger the migration. Could this still work somehow and how?

Please see my latest remark. Inside the JA K2 data migration plugin there is a jlex_migrate.php helper to migrate K2 to JLex Comments. How can I make use of this?

I do not understand.. JA Directory J3 is based on K2 but J4 offers no alternative or native solution to mapped items with comments. After asking guidance I find a script in the JA K2 migration plugin (yet to be included) for jLex comments and still no support. If there is a preferred roadmap for JA Directory to upgrade/ migrate, then the J4/5 template should be an example of that. Otherwise there is no need to update/ install this template at all. You choose not for K2 fork and obviously there is a workaround on the shelf. Please advice

Ok.. so to use the JA K2 migration including the existing jLex migrator I have to pay extra? How much and how does this work? Will I get an extended version of the plugin to execute myself? Please advice.

Please check the plugin contents and the directory template for possibilities to move forward. For now (automated) migration is not possible.

I understand your point. This is a special template designed for K2 content. However, K2 has not been updated for Joomla 4/5, and we don't have plans to update it. Many of our customers, including ourselves, have been waiting for a K2 update for a long time so there is no plan to update this template.

If you need it urgently, I can refer you to a developer who can assist with this task.

I understand Joomla and K2 are history. However, with current Joomla content and fields a native solution is possible, preferably with OS map and support for common comment extensions. I think - being more versatile and flexible - JA Directory still can be a first-class addition to the directory and listing templates.

For now the client will have to decide which way to go from here.
