The menu works fine when displayed on a desktop.
On my phone, however, it displays the three horizontal lines. When I click on those, I get "Sidebar Menu" which looks like a link but nothing shows up.
Is there documentation somewhere on how to set up the menu for tablets/phones?

On mobile view, it will show the menu module assigned to off-canvas position. You can access Administrator panel >> Modules >> assign a menu module to 'off-canvas' position.
