Joomlart's T3 framework

Is it me, or is Joomlart's T3 framework terrible? I love Joomlart's templates, but I want to switch to Joomla 1.7 and they only have templates with the T3 framework. I ran one website with the new framework on it and it made my site really slow. I also don't like how to customize things. Is this framework designed for people who can't customize HTML?
Anyway, my question is: what template base would you recommend for someone who can customize the php?

Joomla 1.7 is quite outdated now, and the T3 framework you're using is also an older version. I recommend upgrading your site to Joomla 5 and switching to the T4 framework with the T4 BS5 Blank template, which is a free template of the T4 framework.
