Hi there,

I'm an English teacher and I'm building (with considerable help) a website to direct new and existing students to. As part of the onboarding process, my students will be required to do a Placement test to determine their level of English and to help me place them on the right course. Courses are over six levels from A1 - C2 (elementary to proficiency) and the placement test needs to be able to accurately indicate where prospective students sit on that scale. The test I would like to design is quite a simple concept and I've already started creating it but I'm not sure if Joomla will enable me to design it the way I want to or if it will be necessary to purchase an extension or whatever.

Basically, as I previously said, there are six levels that I need to test for, so my idea was to design a test that gets increasingly harder until the student is unable to answer questions accurately, giving me a good indication of his or her level. I would like to do it so that the first page of the test selects, say, 15 randomly selected questions at A1, the second page 15 randomly selected questions at A2, the third, 15 questions from a pool of B1 questions and so on up to C2 level. Is this possible? If so, how could I do it?

Any and all help would be much appreciated. I hope to have been clear but if any clarification is needed, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I'm just a user so cant say definitively (and after 12 days you've probably solved this issue yourself).

My limited understanding of the built in quizzes is that an individual quiz can pull random questions through but only from its own single question bank, so no way to control the level of the question as they will be mixed up (happy to be proved wrong here if you have found a way as it would be useful for me).

A workaround would be to have a separate quiz for each level and if possible set it so the next lesson/quiz cant be taken unless the previous one was passed. Each quiz can be set as randomly pulling Qs through from its own question bank.

I'm almost certain you have at least considered this but thought Id pipe in.

Thanks for your suggestion Ben 🙂
