I would like to have the left sidebar removed from the article view as shown in the attached picture.

Follow some below steps to solve this issue.

  1. Create folders in the following path ([ja_purity_iv]/local/html/com_content/article/).
  2. Extract the attach file and upload the default.php file to the "article" folder.
  3. Reload your website to view the change.
