Lost a module position in Nuevo

I was fooling around with modifying a copy of the default nuevo template page, and I've lost the module position "slideshow" on the homepage. How do I get it back? Also, can I modify the css and then compile to less? Or must I make all color changes in the template arrangement or theme? I've tried to follow the instructions in Joomlart site, but couldn't make it work right to test it. Thanks.

Ja_Nuevo Homepage is using ja_nuevo features Intro template layout and not default layout , in default layout slideshow position is missing , but if you need to add it then simply edit the default.php file inside folder /templates/ja_nuevo/tpls/ and add the slideshow block.

Regarding customization you can add css custom code to the custom.css file
