Updating Shape5 Vertex template - can users of free templates use the updater?

I use the Vertex (free ) template for my village website and I have just received an email that tells me that there's a new update for the template. Following the link I am told that the best way to update the template is to install the template updater - makes sense! However, when I follow the link to download it I am told:
"You are not authorised to view this resource. Sometimes this message will appear if the site session on your local machine has expired or a cookie has been accidentally cleared. We recommend simply logging out of the site, and the log back in to ensure you receive a fresh site session on your local machine. We are sorry for the inconvenience, if the problem continues please do not hesitate to contact us."

Is this just because I'm a user of the free template or is there something else I need to do?

Kindly confirm if you are have tried updating the same through Vertex Updater Component as per steps outlined here- Method 1

Hi - that's the route I was following to install the updater. If I'm not allowed to use the updater then I will follow the option to install manually - but clearly using the built in feature would be a better approach!
I will quite understand if the updater is not available to freeloaders like me! It's just that my site has zero income as it's a local information site for my village and hence I try to avoid incurring any costs if I can!

Hi,
Not sure if you've changed anything but I've just managed to download the updater, install it and then run it to update to 4.2.1 - so I'm sorted!
I couldn't do this by following the links provided but instead I went to the downloads section from my login area and then located the updater from there.
