GK Events template

Hello. I downloaded the GK Events template. In the zipped package I have two sets, 25 and 3, I assume joomla 2.5 and 3.0, and three different things. A zipped package, that I was able to install and use, a quickstart package and a "rest" package. I tried to install one of these and it didn't work. What are exactly these packages for? Do they need to be installed. For now, I'm working on MAMP by the way.

Hi Alina,

I recommend you to use package for J!3, Joomla 2.5 is out of date and not be supported by Joomla or by us anymore.

GK events quickstart J!3 = This is quickstart package of template, you will install it like the way you install Joomla package but it will include sample data so that your site will look like our demo site.

GK events J!3 = This is template package, if you don't want to use sample data, you will install Joomla first (or if you already have an existing site with Joomla installed), you just need to install this template package via Back-end > Extensions > Install

GK events rest files J!3 = This package contains files for plugins used in template, if you use Quickstart package, you don't need this package, if you install template package separately, you download this package and install plugins inside.

Thank you for your quick response. Could I use Eventbrite on this template eventough I here that Combrite doesn't exist anymore? I purchased the template because of Eventbrite, but now I'm a bit confused as how to use it with Eventbrite, without Combrite.

Kindly ensure that you also click on the "sample data" during installation process as also outlined here. You will need to start afresh with clean database/directory in order to install quickstart with demo content as envisaged

Important
To install the quickstart correctly you MUST select to install the sample data. The quickstart will not install correctly if sample data is not selected and you will have an empty joomla site.
Once you have selected to install the demo data and meet the hosting requirements, click next and the database + data will install (this again may take some time depending on the host).

For an unknown reason, when I install the quickstart package for the same template, I don't have the option of installing "sample data".
All I have is no data at all, or generic homepage...
Can you please provide help on this issue ?

I did solve this myself, what I did (for others with the same problem) :
- Install the package with no data
- During the install write on a paper the prefix for the table (the "A1B2" part, don't forget the underscore at the end)
- Open the file : sample_data.sql with a text editor (notepad ++ in my case), the file is located in /installation/sql/mysql folder of the so-called quickstart package
- Replace the string "#__" with the one noted before for all occurences, then save with the name of your choice
- Go to mySQL, select your DB, then import the SQL file you just created
Now, the site looks like the demo, but you can't log in as an admin. Here is the painful part :
- go to the [yourprefix]users table and edit the first entry (gavickadmin2)
- change the entry for password with what you want (don't forget to select MD5)
- change the value of the "block" entry to 0 instead of 1
- go to the usersgroup_map table
- ad an entry with : id_user : "948" (which is the gkadmin2 user ID) and groupID : "8"
Now you should be able to log in as an admin with gkadmin2 as a name and the password you entered
