I installed the Gavick steakhouse quickstart template on my localhost and it installed a blank demo (not a replica of the demo). I then tried installing on my live server multiple times and it wont even installed and gets a 500 error. I can easily install Joomla itself on both servers so it seems to be something with the Quickstart package.

    highlinebusiness Hi

Kindly ensure that you also click on the "sample data" during installation process as also outlined here. You will need to start afresh with clean database/directory in order to install quickstart with demo content as envisaged

I then tried installing on my live server multiple times and it wont even installed and gets a 500 error.

You may wished to check for troubleshooting steps as outlined here related to certain type of error and consult your hosting provider for the same

Also, Try to increase memory_session limit on your server

Thank you for your reply. So I am now able to get the demo replica installed on my localhost by simply selecting the option to include sample data.

However, I am still unable to install on the live server. I increased the memory session limit as well as every other limit I thought could be causing the error. I also tried using Akeba backup + kickstart to migrate the site I got up on my localhost to the live server and this didnt work either. The specific error I get in Chrome is: currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500 and I dont even get an error in Firefox, just a blank white screen. Not sure where to go from here.

And as an FYI, my server hosts many different kinds of joomla and wordpress sites and I've never had an issue installing a template (however they were from other template providers). Are there any special settings required? What php versions are compatible? What recommended memory limit do you suggest. I currently have it set at 4096MB. Thanks in advance for the help

You may refer to this documentation which outlines recommended settings and couple prerequisites that need to be met to install Joomla! 3.x successfully

Also, As you are seeing blank white screen, You may follow this documentation excerpt

When a site developer is confronted with a white screen, the first step is to increase the error reporting level to maximum – you can find out more on error reporting by reading our Joomla error reporting tutorial.

I currently have it set at 4096MB

In actual, 1024MB is recommended so fine to go forth however you may check the actual memory allocated

Also, You can check actual memory being allocated by following steps outlined here
