June 24, 2011 at 3:43 am #165594Just wondering if there is much difference in speed for Teline IV between 1.5 and 1.6.
My site @ http://www.progressivetalks.com, is lagging a bit and it’s currently 1.5..
Wondering whether I should try to upgrade to 1.6 or not…
Thanks

June 25, 2011 at 3:28 am #398318Please check if your config to see if you have enabled caches:
– Global cache.
– Cache of modules.
– Template cache.
Its a tip that can reduce the site load and make it run faster.dankumc Frienddankumc

July 3, 2011 at 12:38 pm #399671All cache’s are enabled (have been from when I initially launched the site, but still no difference..
Still not sure whether 1.6 is faster though?
Trying to make the transition isn’t as easy as I’d hoped, however, with various modules and plugins needing to be manually upgraded, along with finding a way to transfer from K2 in 1.5, to either K2/Joomla in 1.6

As far as I am aware (at this time), the K2 component is not yet compatible with J1.6. So, if using K2 is important to you in using Teline IV, then you are going to need to stick with the J1.5 version for the time being (or until such time as the K2 developers upgrade their product).Therein lies the primary difference between Teline J1.5 and Teline 1.6 – in my opinion.

July 3, 2011 at 9:50 pm #399708There’s a beta version for J1.6 that I have found of K2 and downloaded, but is still isn’t easy to figure out the transition process..
I don’t really care where I use K2 or native J1.6, now it has most of the features of K2 in 1.5… It’s more so the fact I don’t want to lose the content I already have…
It also seems that I would have to redo every single one of my modules since they need to be upgraded in 1.6..
The current site I built with quickstart and I’ve been planning to try and do it from scratch to speed it up.. Just haven’t been able to figure out how to accelerate the process through exporting users, content, comments, etc.. so I can import into a fresh template site..
This is all besides the point though.. The only difference I’m interested in is speed. Is the 1.6 template and J1.6 faster than 1.5… If the case is yes, there I will just have to find a way to transition..
If not, I’ll put it off for now..

July 3, 2011 at 11:20 pm #399711My advice . . . continue to use your current site configuration. I have not heard any reports that J1.6 is faster than J1.5 in any significant way. Besides, from what I’ve been reading, J1.6 is destined to be relatively short lived – with J1.7 (and even talks of J1.8) right around the corner.
