    Hello!
I just installed the 1.7 quickstart after seeing how it looked in the demo only to find out that mods like the search module are just custom html module instead of real modules like the 1.5 quickstart has.
K2 is missing making it a way different template than the original one.

I m following for years now but this time I feel you made a huge mistake presenting a template into a quickstart package when it doesnt work like the 1.5 does. K2 is a 3rd party component indeed but that doesnt mean you can create a template just by using custom html modules to replace all k2, jatabs and k2 custom search functionality.

Another issue: I just installed 1.5 quickstart as well and JAK2 search plugin is missing…

JA K2 filter was never part of JATC and requires JAEC subscription to download and use. The template just highlights the usage of extensions (they can be from 3rd party as k2 / jomsocial or inhouse JAEC extensions as JA Comment or K2 filter).

<blockquote>K2 is missing making it a way different template than the original one.</blockquote>

Blame it on K2 developers… we waited for long time for them to provide K2 for J 1.6 ….. we had to eventually redo all styles for com_content to minimize the loss of K2 styles from J 1.5 templates…

We would be working on K2 styles for J 2.5 for the templates which supported K2 in 1.5.. but it would take time and would be on medium priority…. supporting K2 blindly for J 1.5 and when it failed to keep pace with J 1.6… increased our support problems many folds… the case is with you too… you also tend to blame us for missing K2…… they missed the upgrade for almost a year…

    we been supporting J 1.5, J 1.6 and J 1.7 and now J 2.5 beta is out… really need a breathing space…

We will support K2 for older supported templates but at our own pace.

FYI : JA Comment component latest release (unannounced) now supports K2 integration. we are working but cant let routine work get delayed.

    Greetings Makis !!! 🙂 . . .

Unless I am misunderstanding your issue . . . the search module is a core Joomla module. As such, you should be able to enable it within your Module Manager accordingly – unless you are referring to the K2 Search & Filter extension when you say “search module” . . in which case, moving onto the next issue . . .

The issue with K2 is this . . . When JA Portfolio was originally presented for J1.7, the K2 component was not yet updated for compatibility with J1.7. That being said – and understanding that K2 is now compatible with J1.7 (as can be seen with integration of such with our latest two JATC Templates), – I do know that, in addition to the tasks of continuing design/development of our monthly JATC and JMTC releases, as well as addressing various issues that are identified as possible bugs and/or needed improvements for the core functionality of our templates/themes, updating all of our J1.7+ Templates for/with K2 v2.5+ is a very time-intensive process. Nevertheless . . . and especially with the upcoming advent of the next Joomla LTR (long term release) in J2.5 (currently slated for Jan 2012) – I already know that our JA Development Team is working on preparatory updates of our JA Products for J2.5 . . . . which, I have to believe, includes updates of many of our most popular and dynamic JATC Templates and JAEC Extensions – including JA Portfolio and our K2 Search & Filter extension.

    <em>@Makis77 291775 wrote:</em><blockquote>Another issue: I just installed 1.5 quickstart as well and JAK2 search plugin is missing…</blockquote>
Our K2 Search & Filter extension is one of our JAEC Club Level Extensions and, as such, is not included within the template download packages. Those complimentary extensions that are included are listed on the JA Portfolio information page.

While I understand the feeling that this might not seem “fair,” when the extension is showcased within the demo version, think of it as similar to a car dealership showcasing it’s products in it’s showroom with all of the bells and whistles included – to demonstrate the full capacity of their product. Such is the case with our demo showcasing of some of our JATC Templates in which we may include one or more of our JAEC extensions – to showcase the potential capacity and dynamic functionality that the respective template can achieve.

I hope this has helped to address your issues and/or concerns with regard to this matter. As a long standing JATC Member, we very much appreciate and value your continuing support and contributions as part of our JoomlArt Community. If you should have any additional questions and/or constructive feedback, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Hi guys!
I ll try to reply to both of you without making it difficult to follow what I mean.
@drarvindc You got exactly the meaning of my post but being experienced with Joomla and OS CMS in general I already know how 3rd party components work.
I also know that K2 didnt deliver ontime this update so I dont have any questions about all those.
My questions are about showing a demo template followed by a quickstart package when this package has several of custom html modules. Being a customer of Joomlart for years I know that when I see a demo then the quickstart has all the features that I see working and not as custom html modules. JA Portfolio for 1.7 failed and apparently will cost me a client int he next few days.
At least you should update your 1.7 demo and say that some of the core features are not working like they did with Joomla 1.5 version because of the K2 delay.
Its hard to gain new customers but what really hurts is to loose your old ones….

    @tomc
Hi! I was talking about the JA K2 search module, if this is an extra for the 1.5 version then I dont have any problems buying it. I wonder if I must apply a specia styling to this module after I install and publish it.
After reading your 2nd part of your reply I get that you are leaving behind making JA Portfolio 1.7 working with K2 because you are focusing making it work for the upcoming LTR. As a pro I rarely jump into LTR without waiting some months for new bugs to appear and solved. Either way I d appreciate an answer and an unofficial timeframe for making Ja Portfolio 1.7 work with new K2 if this is possible of course.

Regarding the JA K2 search module I dont have any problem paying extra about it but I feel its fair to make a notice about it in your info page about JA Portfolio so that we all know from the beginning what we need in order to create a website like the demo.

I do appreciate all your efforts and feel better having 2 replies in a few minutes time but you have to more precise in your info pages because that will help us dealing with our customers.

Thanks for the replies to both of you.

You and I are cut from the same cloth in this respect, my friend . . . which is why I find it somewhat unproductive and presumptive when I see so many so quick and eager to jump onto the bandwagon of the “shiny new toy” the second it is released – and, of course, the next second demanding to know why all of our templates weren’t updated for it yesterday. 😎

(Already seeing “When will you have a template ready for Virtuemart 2.0” questions)

As for the K2 Search & Filter extension for J1.7 . . . the information I have been provided with suggests that there have been a number of bugs associated with K2’s latest version which have made updating our Search & Filter extension somewhat difficult. We don’t want to knowingly release a faulty product just for the sake of saying “we have it.” I’m sure you understand.

That being said . . . my educated guess is that if/when the K2 Search & Filter component is to be updated – it will likely accompany JA’s updating of templates for J2.5 come Jan/Feb 2012.

    Thanks for the reply Tom.
Trying to reach a wider market means that you must lower your quality, quantity over quality matters and I dont have an issue with that because either way with Joomlart quality is there.
I just want to have some badges or notices over the demos like the Portfolio 1.7 saying what is different than the default demo of the 1.5.

I just hope I wont loose my customer…

    Hi Tom!
I see that Joomla 2.5.xx is already published and I wanted to ask you when will you update portfolio template for this version in order to use K2 component and K2 Search&Filter module like it does for Joomla 1.5.xx version.

Keep an eye on our UPDATES[/url] section – as I believe there will be an announcement this week with regard to the issue of J1.5 updates.

Currently there is no K2 specific component support nor is the K2 search modules available for Joomla 2.5.x. I cannot say when it will be done at this present time.

    Hi Phill.
You mean there is no update for your K2 subthemes since K2 component is available for J! 2.5.x.

If you read post here you ll see that “you” mention an update to portfolio theme(which uses k2 component and k2 search/filter module).

No there is not. The devs have not re-visited older themes to add new features to the J2.5 versions that were not present in the J1.6/7 versions. It is very unfortunate that K2 did not release until very late in the game which left JA in a very awkward situation. At this time I cannot say if or when the devs will be able to go back and add specific K2 styling. It takes a lot of work, more than you might expect and to do 20 templates would take a lot of man hours. That is why at the time of release it was stated that there was no K2 support in the J1.6/7 versions of the time.

I know it is not what you want to hear and believe me, it is not what I want to tell you. I too would like to see these features added even though I do not use K2.

K2 will work in the J2.5 templates but only with minimal specific styling.
