2 Questions – One on a header graphic, the other on header position

Looking for suggestion on a way I can use positions in the Purity III template to have a look of a banner style graphic or header image at the top of the home page (and all pages) and the nice horizontal menu below?(I don’t know what to refer to this menu as because the position or module name is not identified when i view all template positions but i can enter text via the Theme settings) OR, does anyone know of a 3rd party extension that would do the same?
