500 Internal Server Error when trying to modify K2 category and Global config.

Hi. I really don’t know what’s going on now and have been up all night trying to solve this..

Some strange things have been happening.. all I wanted was the blog effect like on the template (k2 nex_blog) and so i tried to map a menu link (Government Statements) to a K2 category listing (also “Government Statements” under the default “NEX-Blog” category. When I try to modify the category settings.. I get the above error :((

I googled it and it seemed that it may have been my permission settings or even the htaccess file. When trying to modify on the server something strange happened. It was reading 0 kb. I tried to re-upload both the .htaccess and htaccess.txt files and to my dismay the server did not allow me to for whatever reason. I tried a half dozen work arounds but nothing. Don’t know what to do now.. not even sure if that’s what I’m supposed to be doing >:(

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.. all I want to do is make the 3 subcategories under “Blogs” on the menu appear like that of the original template… that’s all 🙁
