August 14, 2015 at 10:18 am #661059Hello,
I am building a multi-lingual website where all of the content should ideally be available in both English and Russian. I have run across a few issues where I am not sure how to translate some content into Russian or things are not displaying correctly. I use the component Falang version 2.0.0 to translate my site.
1. On my business-home homepage I have a module which features three news articles. I need to know how to translate the “In the News” title and the “Continue reading” link into Russian. See screenshot:
2. Also, I am having some trouble with the tagged articles menu point display. When we are on the Russian version of the site all of the menus show in Russian as they should, but none of the previews of the tagged articles are in Russian. When you click on any of the articles and go to the full article it then displays in Russian as it should. Do you think this is a Falang issue or a template issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

August 19, 2015 at 3:03 am #662846Hi linnea,
For the language text, it belongs to the ‘Articles Category’ module, you can open the language file for this Uber template in Russian: root/language/ru-RU/ru-RU.tpl_uber.ini
and add following text fields:
TPL_FROM_FOR_BLOG = "In The News"
TPL_MOD_ARTICLES_CATEGORY_READ_MORE_TITLE = "Continue reading <i class='fa fa-long-arrow-right'></i>"
Regarding to the tagged articles, I think there is something wrong with Falang as in multilanguage site of default Joomla, it will have separate menu for each language and each menu will show corresponding content of specific language only.

August 19, 2015 at 8:29 am #662923Thank you Saguaros.
I went in to try and find the file you specified in: root/language/ru-RU/ru-RU.tpl_uber.ini
I could not find this file, I only appear to have this file for the templates beez3 and protostar. Could this be causing my problem with the tagged articles? What should I do to create this file?

August 19, 2015 at 9:20 am #662932The language package of Russian doesn’t inlcude the language file for this template so you simply create it and add above text fields so that when you display site in Russian, it will automatically load language file of template in Russian. And viceversa with English.

August 19, 2015 at 10:52 am #662944Ok, thank you for that clarification. I have created that file and everything works fine now.
As for the tagged articles, I suspect that you are correct that this is a Falang problem. I am trying to work with the Falang developer to fix the problem with no success so far. I actually like that Falang does not force us to have two entirely different menus because that is very inconvenient to manage in the long-term with a large website.
Do you know if there are any good alternatives to Falang for running a multi-lingual website, besides the built in Joomla multi-language feature? I have been pleased with the Falang component in the past but this is a major issue for us since our redesigned website is very much tagged based and we want all of our content to appear the same in English and in Russian.

August 20, 2015 at 3:55 am #663116We also have a FREE component: JA Multilingual for multilingual site: http://www.joomlart.com/documentation/joomla-component/ja-multilingual
You can give it a try and test it first then make a comparison.

August 24, 2015 at 8:52 am #664881Hi again,
Thank you for the suggestion, but I don’t think that is quite what we need for our site. As far as I understand it the JA Multilingual component translates a website’s content using Google Translate? We have a translator on staff to do this work since we are not pleased with the results of Google translate and therefore I don’t think this component suits our needs.
