    Use the arrows to alter the positions until “lapublicite” is top, “JA News Frontpage” is second and “JA News” is third:

    Click the “Save Order” icon

    Check your site, you should now have a banner above the news section.

    If we make stuff like this for many of the key functions., the Forum would be empty:) This would be more so specially if the Instructions come with FAQs that anticipate the potential mistakes of new users.

    Hi Chris,

    Is there any tool, built in in any Mac (I have a G4) that you use to Grab and isolate the images you used in the How To illustrated above?

    Also, what FTP software do you use? I use Fetch, and it is free for me because I use it mostly for non-profit projects.

    Grabbing images from Fetch

    Are you able to use the “image grabber” you used above to grab images also from a Fetch program?

    There is a very interesting Tip I learned from JoomlaWorks, it allows you to have different image and short introductory text in the articles — that appear in the “Home Page” or any of the introductory pages of a Section or Category — from that you may want to show in the full article.

    The visual illustration of such a Tip would be quite powerful also to teach users how to create very innovative Front (Intro) page from that of the Full article.

    Hi Cornelio

    No special software for screen grabs, I just use the built-in OSX function (Shift+Apple+4 = screen grab).

    This produces a file on the desktop which I then FTP to server for use in any instruction.

    Me too, I use Fetch (although I paid for mine!!!) … and (Shift+Apple+4 = screen grab) works fine in Fetch and all Mac apps!

    Hi Cornelio

    I thought this function was built in since early OSX?

    Basically hold down Shift+Apple+4 and cursor changes to ‘crosshair’. Then ‘drag’ over the part of the screen you want to grab and let go. A file should then appear on the desktop called “Picture 1.png”. Next time you grab the filename will be “Picture 2.png”, etc.

    Then, just rename them and FTP. Unless you need to edit in Photoshop.

    Alternatively, you should have a utility called “grab” which does the same thing. This is in the /Applications/Utilities folder.

    Let me know if either of those work!!

    I unite with this exchange of ideas. thank you with you two I included/understood the principle of handling. In what relates to me, I go gently. I would like to put another question how to make to remove the part surrounded in red. unite the image

    Hi Chris,

    That shows how much I know about my computer.:) To think it is the only system I have used extensively.

    Yes I did get something but it comes out as pdf — but, no photoshop here, sorry. — so it was a pain first to convert to pict then to jpg. Also, I was using an old program but it is acting up on me now. And, the pdfs are not as nice as the one you made.

    What I found is that quite a few of the figures are already in the images in the Admin — the ‘actual pages” though still had to be grabbed.

    I will revisit this in the future. I was supposed to go to the museum since this morning but I got bogged down answering some posts. It is late afternoon here now, but I wanted to see how the back entrance that they just re-opened to the public looks like.

    I was writing my concepts about a similar project last night. As well as gathering more information related to the Manual.

    I think what Victor is trying to do is get rid of the ‘MORE’ and the two links to articles which appear on the 8 x ‘Front Page’ modules:

    Leaving just the ‘main’ article per section.

    Hi Chris,

    That is an odd request, but it can be done through the JA News Module (For Joomla 1.0x)

    Log in to Administrator
    => select Modules
    => select Site Modules
    => Find in the list and Click JA News
    this transports you to a new window:
    Site Module: Edit [ JA News ]

    => Go down to Parameters
    Find
    Intro Items 1 => this tells how many articles will include some Intro text
    Link Items 2 (default) => change to 0

    that should do it — remove both the links and the More.

    I am sure Victor and others may be interested also with the rest of the Parameters.

    Article Order (three choices here from the scroll menu)
    =>Ordering (default)
    =>Created Date
    =>Modified Date

    Group by Category or Section Category Section (default) => usually Section is chosen for the Home Page

    Category (Section) ID => (For the Home Page, select Section. I will explain this below)
    5:red
    4:orange
    9:deepblue
    6:cyan
    11:green
    8: pink
    7:lime
    10:blue

    Intro Items 1
    Link Items 2 (default) => select as many articles you want to show as links
    Max Chars 180 => increase or decrease this number depending on how much text you want to appear
    Show image show hide => click appropriate choice depending on whether you want the image to show or not
    Image Align Left Right => select desired position of image
    Auto resize Yes No => selecting yes would automatically use the specified size of the image (even if original is larger)
    Image Width 100 => change this to desired size of the image
    Image Height 100 => change this to desired size of the image
    Columns 2 (default) => change to as many columns you want (1 to 3 would “fit” the width of the JA News, although 3 columns is crowded)
    Show Readmore show hide => the default is hide (aesthetically this is better, but check :show” for Read more if you think you have “clueless” readers:). This should be obvious (but read note below)

    Again, the information here is for Joomla 1.0x.

    Note:
    When Show Readmore show hide => the default is hide is chosen, there is a need to Edit the Global Configuration to ensure that the Titles are clickable links

    Administrator => Global Configuration => Content

    Linked Titles: No (default) Yes => select Yes to make the Titles of the Articles become clickable links

    There is no equivalent of this feature in Joomla 1.5x, if I am not mistaken; so this might mean that all Titles of Articles are clickable links

    Dans ‘Parameters’ trouvez:

    Changez ‘Link Items = 2’ a ‘Link Items = 0’

    The list below is part of the Parameters. This is one of the most critical part of the JA News layout,

    Assuming Section is chosen, the “Number” below refers to the ID number of a Section. Only the Sections with their ID number included in the list would appear in the JA News section in the Home Page. Note that the ID Number is separated by a colon before the Color. You may change the color as you want.

    Category (Section) ID
    5:red
    4:orange
    9:deepblue
    6:cyan
    11:green
    8: pink
    7:lime
    10:blue

    Important Background Information

    The basic layout of JA Teline II is based on “n” number of columns, as specified in the “Parameters” (see above specifications of Parameters). Let us take the default of 2 columns. The format of the JA News in JA Teline II is based on two major columns. For example, if there are 10 Sections, they will be arranged this way (in 5 rows)

    Left Right
    1 6
    2 7
    3 8
    4 9
    5 10

    In the actual example shown above, there are only eight (8) Sections in the list. Thus, the first four (5, 4, 9, 6) in the list of Sections above will be in the Left column. The next four (11, 8, 7,10) in the list of Sections above will be in the Right Column.

    Question: What happens if there are odd number of Sections included? For example, if there are 11, the first six (6), I think will be in the Left column, and the rest are in the Right column.

    Aside Note:

    Personally, I consider the Two major column layout used in JA Teline II is a bad decision. It leads to the jagged layout when the columns are stacked and the height of the Sections differ because the heiight occupied by the contents of different Sections are different.

    Someone suggested specifying the height because one customer did not like the jagged layout. This is not a good solution either because when you fix the height and the reader wanted increase the size of the text.

    I think the “side by side” columns for each row (i.e, for two columns per row)

    9 10

    or, for three columns per row
    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    7 8 9
    10

    layout used in the JA News for the original JA Teline is better. In the script for JA News In the original JA Teline, the height of each “side by side” columns for each row will depend on the Section with the tallest height in each set. Aesthetically, this is a cleaner layout.

    There are some odd things that sometimes confuse new users.

    Questions related to Sections in the JA News :: Category (Section) ID

    Question: How come I do not see the “News” section in the JA News Demo page?

    Answer: Because the ID number of the “News” section is not included in the list Category (Section) ID window

    Question: I added a new section (e.g. Education) and included it in the list Category (Section) ID window. How come it did not appear in the JA News?

    Answer: The section will appear only in the JA News part of the Home Page, if there are articles in the section. In other words, you can have many sections, but nothing will show up in the JA News, if there are no articles in the Sections.

    Question: How come I do not see all the Sections in the JA News section that I included in the Magazine menu?

    Related Question: How come the order of the Sections in the Magazine menu is different from that of the JA News?

    Answer The Sections that may appear in either the JA News or Magazine Menu are limited by the what you included in the Sections manager

    Administrator => Contents => Section Manager (see list)

    However, what appears in the JA News would depend on what you include in the list Category (Section) ID window, as discussed above. And, what appears in the Magazine Menu would be what you placed in the Magazine Menu (more on this in a future tutorial). In fact, the contents of Magazine Menu need not be limited to Sections. You may place a link for example, or whatever you want.

    Similarly, the order of the Sections in JA News are independent of the order of the “contents” of the Magazine Menu.

    I am sure you are already familiar with the equivalent for Joomla 1.5x

    Administrator => Extensions => Modules

    The process is the same, except the Modules Edit window is arranged differently in Joomla 1.5x
