I need to split ja-news-1 into 2 columns, or add a column to the right of ja-news-1. Our site will have 5 rows in the ja-news-1 section, and the new modules position should be the same height as the js-news-1 section.

Within the ja-news-1 module position it will have 2 columns (so it will be 2/3 of it’s orginal-default width), and the new column to the right will be 1/3 of that section.

Not sure where to start this is my first T3 site.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? The block you are on about is a special tabs block. We would need to make extensive adjustments to put 2 separate columns there. We could if you are not wanting JA-News there simply switch off those and instead use normal module positions.

    Thanks Phil.

I still want the js-news-1 module – I just want it 2/3 of the size, and then the other 1/3 a different column. I need to put ads to the right of that section and my ad management software needs a module position.

Hmm, this is not going to be a simple task. The custom layout of this template makes that very difficult to achieve in the way you wish.

Why is that? Can you expand on it’s difficult. Are we talking 5 hours, 10 hours 40 hours etc.

I found this topic but not sure if this process would work in this case: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/is-possible-to-split-the-middle-content-mass-top-in-two-independent-columns-block/

Is there another approach? My customer wants to have another ad zone next to the topic area. So doing some work for it is ok – but I just need to know the scope.

    Thanks

To do it firstly we would have to define a new module position and then style it. Normally that is quite a simple task but because this is a special position in this template I personally am not sure how to accomplish it. We would certainly have to create a new module position inside that block and then style it. You would also have to adjust the styling of the ja-news section to make it look good with the smaller width. I could probably work it out but it would take over an hour to do well because the template does not out of the box support this. Maybe one of the devs can suggest a better method here?
